60 Sec Confidence Building – How to Be Happy

Today is International Day of Happiness.  The International Day of Happiness is recognized on March 20 every year in many places of the world.   It was established in June 28 2012  by the United Nations General Assembly.  This is part of their statement:

… Conscious that the pursuit of happiness is a fundamental human goal…

How to be happy
Practise makes perfect. Practise Happiness!

Perhaps you may be asking what is there to be happy about?  There may be probably 101 things going on in your life that makes you dreadfully unhappy and rightly so.  No one chooses to be unhappy.  But, we can choose to happy.  I’ll repeat that…No one chooses to be unhappy.  But we can choose to be happy.  Yes unhappiness is not something that anyone would choose to have.  Circumstances and things play a big influence in making us unhappy.  Here at Defying Mental Illness, the title of our campaign for this year is Practise Happiness!

Here’s how to be Happy

#1   Practise.  Whatever you practise, you soon perfect.  Practise Happiness.

#2    Learn Happiness.  The Bible says that joy is in our spirit (Galatians 5:22).  Extract that joy, it is inside you!  With joy comes happiness.

#3  Become Happiness.  What you practise, you soon become.  Become Happiness.

#4   Reject sadness.   It is difficult to think of solutions when sad.  Don’t allow sadness.  Being sad does not change the situation.

#5   Smile.  Even when you don’t feel like it, smile.  Smiling helps elevate your mood.

#6   Forgive.  Bitterness and unforgiveness is a prison.  Open the bars and release yourself.

#7   Be thankful.  In the midst of pain and even trauma, we can find something to be happy about.  If you can’t find anything, we can be thankful that we are alive and reading this blog post!  Where there is life, there is HOPE!

#8   Don’t go after temporary pleasures to make you happy.  Retail therapy, going on vacation may temporarily lift sadness and cheer you up.  But if you have run up a debt, you are only going to feel worse later.

#9   Don’t compare yourself to others.  A lot of times we are hard on ourselves.  We choose to love others and not love ourselves.  Be grateful for beautiful you.  You are wonderfully made.  There is no one like you, ever has been or ever will be.  Celebrate you, quirkiness et al.

#10  Be mindful what you read, watch and listen to.  We become what we read, watch and listen to.  Meditate on the right things.  Read inspirational books that lift you.  Read an inspiring story in the Bible for instance.  Follow us on www.defyingmentalillness.com/blog.  We ALWAYS have something uplifting and happy here for you.

#11  Don’t worry be happy.  Worry makes us fearful and anxious.  Chuck says fear, anxiety and worry are cousins.  Why not check out how we can rid ourselves of these poor relatives once and for all here.

#12  Speak good things about yourself.  You are NOT ugly.  You are not stupid.  If everyone says you are, remember you are your best cheerleader.  Confess positive things about yourself and your life.  Get Meditation and Confession series by E. Onah.  It is a good start to putting you in the right direction!

Happy International Day of Happiness from all of us at Defying Mental Illness.
