Why You Should Come Out of Your Comfort Zone

For the past few years ,every now and then, I have been told by well meaning people that I need to get out of my comfort zone.  But was there any reason for me to?  Let me tell you why you should come out of your comfort zone in 2015…

Others get to see you better than you see yourself.  Comfort zones are about doing the things that are “safe” to do.   Being in a place of comfort resulted in me rarely challenged myself extensively.   It was rare that I planned my day in advance.

Coming out of a comfort zone means to me letting go of habits, possessions, activities and so on to move on to better ones.

Comfort zones are where you deal with familiar issues.  Very little change occur in comfort zones.   It is business as usual.  ‘Same ole same’!

Because I was comfortable, I ended up being driven by other people’s visions.  Sure, I enjoyed doing things in an excellent matter, only I hardly initiated anything.   Not out of fear, but out of a reluctance to stretch myself.

Gradually time passed with me not honing my skills, and only developing a few new areas that caught my attention from my interaction with others.

Comfort zones can be ‘dangerous’.   I’ll explain…

Comfort zones caused me to be complacent.   I wasted a lot of resources by finding that I was repeating steps and activities.   It was only when I got into an environment of constant demands on improvement that it became easy for me to study, to stretch myself, to explore my abilities.  To discover the jewel in me.  And that jewel was priceless!

I had a photographic memory in my early years which bred a habit of speed reading and heavy reliance on short term memory.   I relied on that ability.  I sailed through education, rarely studying.  Net effect was that I collected a lot of notes which I rarely revised.   I was a good student but could have been an excellent one.

The biggest successes in my life have been when I have been disciplined in building on knowledge acquired by consistently putting them to use over extended periods of time without relaxation.

The best I have done for myself is to connect with the vision of a Ministry that built my faith walk.  This can only be done through the power of God.    When you are connected with great visions there is a rub-off on you.   When connected with the greatest Vision of all, there is no telling where your capabilities can reach.   The authority you are acting under determines the results you get.   It also enhances your ability to get results.

I have moved from one challenge into another in the past seven years operating under the authority of the vision in question with the result that I am now getting out of my comfort zone. Hooray!   And the results are outstanding.

In my comfort zone, I would never have been even writing to you now.  I would not have authored a few books.  I would not have taken that vital step to unearth the treasures in me that had been crying to come out for years.

We will look into this subject of comfort zones again, but this year 2015, resolve that you will get out of your comfort zone.  You will be pleasantly surprised by the outcome!

Do you have a comfort zone?  Or have you successfully come out of a comfort zone?  Were your propelled to come out of a comfort zone?  Please share some thoughts below on any of these…
