Depression awareness and suicide

Depression Awareness and Suicide

It is Depression Awareness Week 2015.  Depression on its own is hard to talk about.   But these topics are necessary in order to save lives.  That is why today we are looking at the even harder subject of Depression Awareness and Suicide.  We must DO SOMETHING…NOW!

Depression awareness - suicide
Don’t delay. Speak to someone today

Suicide is the most unfortunate end to a precious life.  Sometimes depression can lead to suicide hence why we are creating its awareness.  Suicide can happen to anyone.  From the homeless man on the street to the Pastor’s kid.     Whether adult or children, the cruelty of suicide is real and not something to sweep under the carpet.  There is a clarion call for us to stand up against suicide and help prevent loss of lives.

Every life is precious.  Don’t give up on anyone.  Never think someone who is talking about suicide is joking.  It is often a cry for help!

Some Suicide Statistics

Each Suicide affects 6 other people.

75% of suicides in the UK are men.

In the last 45 years suicide rates have increased by 60% worldwide (WHO)

WE CANNOT AFFORD TO IGNORE WHAT IS HAPPENING AROUND US.  WE CAN DEFY SUICIDAL RATES AND STATS!

People die by suicide for a number of reasons:

##1  Because of the apparent hopelessness of their situation

##2  Because of strong urges

##3  They think the world will be better off without them

##4   No reason to live in this world

##5  Want to end the pain

##6  Feel suicide is the only option

There is good news.  As ravishing and intimidating as suicide sounds, we can win.  We can defy it.  That is our message in Defying Mental Illness.

If you are feeling suicidal, even in your darkest hour, God does not want you to end it.  Suicide is a one way ticket with no appeal.  The world needs you.  The temporary hopelessness of your situation can change in the twinkle of an eye.

If you are feeling suicide, DO SOMETHING NOW!  Talk to someone NOW.  Call someone or a helpline now.

In the UK, call the Samaritans now on 0845 790 9090.

In the USA, call National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-TALK(8255).

There may be help lines depending on the country you live in.

Call your Pastor!

But don’t ignore the urges.   For one thing, they are very tormenting.  Remember someone wants to help you.   AND YOU CAN BE HELPED

God says He will never leave you nor forsake you.  You may feel abandoned by God or you may not even know who this God is.  But let Him reveal Himself to you.  Will you give Him an opportunity?    Will you?  This post is no ordinary post.  Take it as a love letter to you from God.  An appeal to you to say hold on a little longer.   PLEASE!    And call someone NOW!

If you would like us to pray for you, please fill in the contact details and we will be happy to do so.  But make sure, you make that call TODAY!  Thank you so much for being in this world and staying.
