Expressions with the word, ‘Mind’

Daily, we use expressions with the word mind.  When you actually think about some of the everyday expressions we use with the word mind, one can see we are actually proclaiming or confessing negative things regarding the mind.  Small wonder, the mind is one of the weakest point of attack.

Today is some lighthearted stuff as we unwind towards the weekend. 

Lets take a look at a few of these and see which ones below perhaps needs reconsider rephrasing or not using at all!  After all, we are often what we say! 

Expressions of the Mind

##1  I have half the mind to… 

Oops.  So what happens to the other half in the meanwhile?  Sounds a bit wobbly to me.

##2  I will give him a piece of my mind!

When you keep giving a piece of your mind, how much of the mind will be left?   Hmm.  Not an expression for me.

##3  I am in two mind

Now, two minds sounds a bit confusing… just! 

##4  It was a totally mindless act

Mindless here means no thought was taken into the act. 

##5  You must be out of your mind

You were never in your own mind in the first place!   Not one I want to use moving forward.

##6  Jane has a mind of her own

Well, we all are the custodians of our minds when we think of it.  Jane cannot have Tom’s mind, for example so we do in actual fact have a mind of her own, literally speaking.

##7  I have had a change of mind

This does not mean you have had a mind transplant just as in the same way one could say, I have had a change of heart.

But here is what the Bible says about you and me

##1  I have a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7)

My mind cannot be broken even if my medical reports say so.; that’s just a temporary bleep.  That is the mindset we should have.

##2  I have the mind of Christ  (1 Corinthians 2:16)

What an honor.  Means I can be anything I want to be.

##3  Renewed mind (Romans 12:2)

The Bible admonishes us to renew our minds daily.  Even the Bible acknowledges that if we confirm to the world, our minds may get affected.  But the Bible tells us we need to be transformed by renewing our mind with the Word of God.
