How To Apply Sleep Science To Your Bedroom

By Helen O’Keeffe

Sleep is of such importance to our well-being. Your bedroom should be one that enhances sleep.

A well-rested person feels more energised and motivated about their day’s activities than someone who has not slept well the previous night. Attaining that proper night’s sleep is the key element however and it can elude many owing to knock on impacts like irritability, lack of concentration and motivation among other problems.

Lack of sleep also inevitably impacts the mind and how people feel about themselves and how they react around others. A person who consistently gets poor amounts of sleep can feel depressed because they are so weary and unable to move forward with energy.

The good news is that this issue of lack of sleep can be worked upon so that it will improve in the long run. There are experts who can help with this but you can also tackle elements in the home yourself so that it might improve.

For example, using your phone excessively in the bedroom whether it’s being on social media or answering work emails etc can cause the mind to keep working on overdrive when it should be getting ready to wind down for the night’s sleep.

  1. Great article!
In my opinion, Make your bedroom as dark as possible this includes light blocking shades, no blue lights on electronics and no alarm clock. You should avoid looking at the clock at night because when people look at the time, they tend to do the calculation of how much sleep they can get and get upset if it won’t be enough sleep. The color of walls of your bedroom can also influence the quality of your sleep. Calm, cool and relaxing shades may help you calm.
