Ebola: We are the World, We are the Children

Remember the song, ‘We are the world, we are the children’?
The UK Telegraph newspaper warns that thousands of children are potentially orphaned by the Ebola outbreak.

These kids need a lot of counselling and care to reduce the psychological impact of this cruel disease at a time when countries are closing their doors to protect their own.

At a time like this the song, We are the world, we are the children, certainly rings true in reaching out to this stigmatised, lost and abandoned kids.

We are the world we are the children
Every child is our child

We are the world, we are the children was a charity song written by Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson, produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian. It was sang by a group of amazing artists in response to the plight of suffering African children in the mid 80s.
Nearly thirty years on, the world can do it again. Yes we can! We can certainly reach out to the orphan kids of Ebola.
Why?
Because as the song says, We can’t go on pretending day by day that someone, will soon make a change.

What can we do?
The world must come together as one. And its time to lend a hand to life, the greatest gift of all.
How?

# 1 It Seems Like God Will Do Nothing Except In Answer To Prayer

As Christians, we have a duty to pray for these kids. John Wesley once said it seems like God will do nothing except in answer to prayer. As Christians, we have a call to prayer.
We can come together in twos, organize prayer rallies, prayer groups, prayer chains – to pray!

We cannot assume that someone else is praying. If you can’t find someone, you can be the watchman for that nation. News these days are traumatizing our own kids so we can’t just close our eyes and pretend like these things are not happening.
We cannot lose focus on the power of prayer. God uses situations, people, and also ‘stones to bread’ miracles, to order the changes that the world is desperately crying out for now at this moment. Prayer is our invitation of God to do this.
Prayer is earthly license for heavenly intervention. It is a gift, a blank cheque from God.

#2 So Lets Start Giving…We’re Saving Our Own Lives

Find a charity that supports the cause of reaching out to kids affected by Ebola. UNICEF is doing great work at this time. We can start with them if we don’t have a supported charity of our own. Even though we may never meet these kids, we can love them through our giving.

#3 Send Them Your Heart So They’ll Know That Someone Cares

Be the good news. We can watch our words and be kind in our speech. What we say and write on social media, speaks volumes of what is in our heart.

We can propagate fear or alleviate fear through words. Words have power. Our destinies go in the direction of the words we speak.

The Bible warns us that death and life are in the power of the tongue. If we don’t like what we see on TV and the e-waves, we can change what we saying!

Let our hearts be full of comforting words concerning these kids and their plight.

Finally, even when our own kids are healthy, well fed and safely tucked up in bed, let us remember always that every kid is our kid. No kid has chosen which home or family to be born into; no kid ever asked to be born or come into this world.
If we neglect these kids, they may become tomorrow’s issues, they may make tomorrow’s unpleasant headline.

They may become the issues our kids have to deal with tomorrow because we chose to fold our hands.
The world is today a global village. That orphan ‘Ebola’ kid the world has labelled as such, could defy all odds. They may sit right next to your kid one day in a prominent position. Would we say then we were the agent of that change?
Before we go, here are the entire lyrics of this epic song:

There comes a time when we heed a certain call
When the world must come together as one
There are people dying
And its time to lend a hand to life
The greatest gift of all
We can’t go on pretending day by day
That someone, will soon make a change
We are all a part of Gods great big family
And the truth, you know, Love is all we need

[Chorus]
We are the world, we are the children We are the ones who make a brighter day So lets start giving There’s a choice we’re making We’re saving our own lives

Its true we’ll make a better day
Just you and me

Send them your heart so they’ll know that someone cares
And their lives will be stronger and free
As God has shown us by turning stones to bread
So we all must lend a helping hand
[Chorus]

When you’re down and out,
there seems no hope at all
But if you just believe there’s no way we can fall well well well well
Let us realize that a change can only come
When we stand together as one

A change can only come when we stand together as one!
If you are doing any charity work or creating any awareness, let us shout about it here and create awareness.
